With the WelCare Initiative, we are inviting
you to consider something more for your life, something that just might
turn your life right side up! Did you know that the banana could make you
smarter, healthier and even more energetic? Just as we have invited you to
embrace a new mindset on the healing properties of the banana, we invite you to
start anew this day with a new and different approach to your health, redefining
your wellness and your well-being.

The WelCare
Initiative aims to promote and enhance YOUR desire to more fully participate in
your own medical care in a way that brings new understanding and recognition to
the process of healing and wholeness. Our objective is simple- to invite
you to learn about and adopt health-promoting behaviors. We hope to
provide practical, everyday steps that you can learn which will help you address
both your individual needs and contribute to the well-being of the whole
community. Some of these steps are provided on the pages of the
Well-in-12 calendar.
The Well-in-12 calendar project refers to a wellness plan and calendar
created to educate St. Vincent's clients, service providers and medical students
alike. Not just any calendar, the goal of the Well-in-12 calendar
is to help you develop a guide to achieve a noticeable change in your personal
life and health care habits with a 12-month period. Each month will
highlight a particular value. Why these values? They are values that
are already reflected in our daily life that we have put on a calendar to remind
us all daily of the importance of our well-being. Below are the themes of
the 2006 Well-in-12 Calendar:
| Month | Theme | Month | Theme |
| January | Resolution | February | Love |
| March | Solitude | April | Cleansing |
| May | New Life | June | Commitment |
| July | Freedom | August | Rest |
| September | Intellect | October | Identify |
| November | Gratitude | December | Giving |
The calendar
will help you become more proactive in your own health by reminding you what is
needed in order to improve your physical, mental, and spiritual health.
Each month is primarily devoted but not limited to one of the three essential
components of life: BODY, MIND, & SPIRIT and initiated with a fourth
principle PRACTICE.
Daily activities are designed to move the user toward a sense of holistic
"wellness." Each week will be a new opportunity to consider HOW you are
growing and WHERE you need to heal. To begin to heal, you must understand your
own physical and spiritual condition and understand what it is to be well.
A person beginning to heal IS a good health outcome.
The calendar will offer information about health screening, client wellness
education, clinic events, in addition to recipes, inspiration quotes, and great
ideas for mental and physical activities to begin your healing process.
Come be well with us!

* Comparing the banana
to an apple: Banana has four times (4x) the protein, two times (2x) the
carbohydrates, three times (3x) the phosphorous, five times (5x) the vitamin A
and iron. The banana is also rich in potassium and is one of the best
value foods around.
